Nets Outlast Grizzlies In High-Scoring Affair

Ja Morant and Desmond Bane each scored 38 points to help the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Brooklyn Nets 134-124 on Monday night.

Both Morant and Bane had seven assists each. Bane, who had trouble shooting at the start of the season, was 14 out of 21 overall and 8 out of 11 from 3-point range. This is a career-high for Bane. Santi Aldama scored 17 points for Memphis. The 76 points by the Grizzlies guards was the most by a two-player team in the franchise’s history.

“I’m feeling good about my shooting,” said Bane of the early season. “Most of the misses were close, just off the rim. I feel like that’s just me getting my timing back. …I knew it was just a matter of time before I got my groove back.”

Bane is a key to our success this year because he can score from anywhere and he hands out assists. Tonight was his best game doing both of those things.

Durant mentioned that Memphis made 16 3-pointers in the game, 12 of them coming from Bane and Morant. The Nets only made 9 of 29 3-pointers.

Durant said that the 3-point line hurt their team’s chances, because the other team made more 3-pointers. He said that in today’s game, making 3-pointers is important even if you are not playing as well as the other team.

The Memphis Grizzlies extended their lead over the Brooklyn Nets to 15 points in the third quarter, despite Kevin Durant scoring 17 points in the period.

I thought we were not paying attention especially at the beginning of the third. I called a timeout early, but then we gave up 45 points in the third and that was the end.

Bane believes that the team can improve by sharing the ball more. He and his partner have 76 assists between them and take pride in involving the whole team.

Durant surpasses English for 20th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. The team is on a seven-game losing streak to Memphis. Markieff Morris is unavailable for personal reasons.

Grizzlies: Dillon Brooks, who was listed as questionable before the game because of a sore left thigh, made his first appearance of the season. Bane’s previous career-high for 3-pointers was in February against Portland. Before this game, Bane was 8 of 28 from 3-point range, C Steven Adams had 13 rebounds, Morant had eight rebounds.
